America woke up to some interesting NFL news this morning.
The Steelers’ top receiver George Pickens, who was on schedule to be a part of a great duo with DK Metcalf, is being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a third and fifth round pick.
Surprising is an understatement for this trade – Pickens somewhat embodied the Steelers’ mindset; they are gritty and vocal. Now, Metcalf will have to take the reigns as WR1 in Pittsburgh and should be targeted frequently as the Steelers do not have much help outside of him.
On the other side of the deal, the Cowboys should benefit quite well. Ceedee Lamb is already one of the best receivers in the league, so having Pickens by his side should take significant pressure off Lamb. Not only that, but it is another target to throw to – when Lamb was injured last season, Jalen Tolbert and Kavontae Turpin were the main receivers.
Pickens being a part of the NFC East means he will now square off against Marshon Lattimore twice a year – so watch out for a bit of tension between the two. Lattimore has already been destroyed by Mike Evans in the past, and Pickens is even more wild and physical.
If there is one takeaway or positive aspect of this trade for the rest of the NFL and fanbases everywhere, it is that Jerry Jones actually did something decent.
