The Browns are still trying to convince the league that they will not trade their star pass-rusher Myles Garrett. Despite this, the odds favor he will be moved out of Cleveland by the beginning of the 2025 season.

At the beginning of February, Garrett presented his frustration about another losing season with a trade request. Initially, it looked like Cleveland would allow him to seek a trade, but Browns general manager Andrew Berry said Garrett will stay put. The stalemate continued as Garrett’s agent announced they have “shut the door” on all contract negotiation talks with Cleveland. Garrett enters the final season of his contract and will likely hold out if he is still with Cleveland.

The favorites to land the former Defensive Player of the Year are the Commanders. Philadelphia threatens their odds as GM Howie Roseman says if Washington trade talks “gain steam, [he] will make the Browns an offer they cannot receive.” The Commanders are the biggest threat to the Eagles in the NFC East and a growing threat in the NFC. Roseman is willing to put a lot on the table to stop the Commanders from picking up a much needed addition.

Outside of the NFC East drama, other teams interested in Garrett include the Bills. The Bills are in a similar situation as Washington in the sense that their defense needs to step up to be on the same level as the offense. The Bills will likely not have the salary cap they need to resign him after next year, but could use him for a championship run this upcoming season.

The Lions are listed as the next closest team to making the big trade. When healthy, their defensive line is already dominant. They have Aiden Hutchinson who was dominating before his injury last season, and they added Garrett’s former teammate Za’Darius Smith at the trade deadline this season. Adding Myles Garrett to this front will be unstoppable.

All other potential trades are unlikely. It will be interesting to see if the Browns trade away Myles Garrett this offseason. That “if” is becoming more and more of a “when”. Mock trades show they will look for a lot of draft capital in return. Some show as much as two first-rounders in exchange for Garrett. As they get more desperate closer to the draft, that number may go down.
