With free agency starting March 12 and the NFL Draft occurring April 24-26, some teams will be looking for their new guy under center. Here are the teams that should look to draft, and some landing spots for guys in free agency.

Titans

The Titans are the perfect example of a team that needs a quarterback… and a running back, and receivers and maybe a whole new team. With the number- one overall pick in this year’s draft, they should be looking into their top QB prospect and locking him in. The favorite for the first pick is Cam Ward from Miami. Ward showed lots of talent and promise in college last year, moving him up everyone’s draft board, including Tennessee. Ward can grow with whoever the Titans build around him for many years to come.

Browns

It is obvious Deshaun Watson did not work out in Cleveland. While they are going to have to deal with dead cap now, they need to also be looking into the future. With Jameis Winston likely testing out free agency, the Browns will likely double-dip on a quarterback. They should start by signing Marcus Mariota should Washington let him walk. If not, someone of similar playstyle to guide their eventual draft pick, Shedeur Sanders. Mariota took Daniels under his wing this year, boosting his rookie-year development. Sanders will be the future but could use a veteran in his ear.

Giants

New York is another team that needs every position. It starts by drafting the best available player, Travis Hunter, then landing a quarterback in free agency. The Hunter-Nabers duo can be lethal down the road, meaning they do not need their franchise QB immediately. For now, enter Sam Darnold. If he works out, he still has time in his career as a 27-year-old. Otherwise, it is back to the drawing boards under center, but with weapons to surround their eventual superstar.

Raiders

Vegas struck gold with Brock Bowers in last year’s draft. As for their quarterback – try out Ridder. This is a great offseason to build up skill positions and see what he has. Atlanta passed up on him very quickly and Vegas played him with little support, so his full potential is yet to be seen.

Jets

What a trainwreck last year turned out to be. All the hype behind Rodgers made Jets fans hate football. The team appeared to think they were in win-now mode with Rodgers but now face an extension of their rebuild. The team had a few weapons last year but now face departures, especially from their receivers Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams. If they want to stay immediate contenders, they will take a shot on a veteran free agent like Kirk Cousins. The smart move would be to draft and spend free agency building around a rookie.

Steelers

Justin Fields or Russel Wilson? Neither. As well as Pittsburgh played last season, they still came up empty in the playoffs. We have all heard about Mike Tomlin’s streak of winning seasons, but the Steelers have not won a playoff game since 2016. It is time to find their new Big Ben. Despite there being many quarterbacks to go around in this draft, free agency will likely suit them because of their late draft pick. This would theoretically make Justin Fields a good fit, so he makes a good plan B. With the stars they have now, they need to take less of a chance and pay a quarterback who has shown more ability over a guy with potential. If they want to make a splash this offseason, they will trade with Miami for Tua Tagovailoa. Otherwise, the safer route would be signing Jameis Winston.

This offseason will likely be one of free agency. There should not be a lot of trades at the quarterback position, but rather many free agent quarterbacks getting big paychecks. The draft is also filled with an abundance of talent at the position leading the way for the next generation of quarterbacks.
